Inside STAT: Can genetic tests gauge how well antidepressants will work?
It's notoriously difficult for doctors and patients to figure out which anidepressant might be the most effective. So Color Genomics — which sells genetic tests for cancer risk — is now offering a genetic test that will report how well widely used antidepressants such as Zoloft and Lexapro are likely to work for patients. Color joins a slew of other companies promising to probe DNA in search of meaningful information about medications for depression, PTSD, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. But some top psychiatrists say the evidence doesn’t support the commercial rush. STAT’s Rebecca Robbins has the story here.
