Will my children survive antimicrobial resistance?

In the wake of the World Health Organization's recent publication of a global priority list of antibiotic-resistant bacteria the increasing risk of antibiotic resistance has become even more apparent. In the following blog post Sheldon Stone highlights the need for better reporting, using the ORION guidelines, for outbreak reports of nosocomial infection. There is clearly a need for as much high quality data as possible about these infections and the ORION guidelines provide a valuable tool for researchers hoping to maximize the impact of their research.

Sheldon Stone is a Senior Lecturer, Stroke Physician and Consultant Physician for Older People at Royal Free and University College Medical School who, having once run an MRSA isolation ward fell into bad company and devoted the rest of his research life to hand-hygiene, MRSA screening, antibiotic policies and the role of reporting guidelines and behavioural science in producing robust evidence to inform practice and policy. He has one wife, three children, two cats and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club membership.
