Scientists Identify Important Genetic Changes in 21 Autoimmune Diseases

How Can Genetic Changes Lead to Autoimmune Disease?
NIH-funded scientists have developed a computer program that identifies important genetic changes in 21 autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. Their newly released study shows that although these diseases affect different parts of the body and cause different symptoms, the genetic changes leading to these disorders tend to occur only in B and T cells in the immune system.
Their data and software are available to the research community to explore a variety of disorders and novel treatments.
