The first annual FH Summit “Awareness to Action” was held in Annapolis, Maryland on Sept 18th and 19th 2013. In addition to government agencies, representatives from healthcare organizations, and industry, the Summit brought together academic experts on FH from across the US, Canada, South America, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia. The major focus of the meeting was to discuss best practices for integrating FH into local, state and national public health efforts. The Summit opened up on the evening of Sept 18th with a dramatic “call to action” by FHF Founder and President Katherine Wilemon who told about her journey with FH. This was followed by rousing remarks from Matt Ito current president of the National Lipid Association and himself an FH patient. The following morning the sessions were opened by remarks from the co-chairs Drs. Muin Khoury from the CDC and Dan Rader from the University of Pennsylvania who set the stage by framing what was necessary to bring FH to the forefront of public health efforts. The conference was organized around short sessions. Each section was followed by a lively discussion panel with a goal of generating concrete action items to move the field forward. Each participant was also asked to share their vision for where we hope to be in five years. A manscript describing the meeting is in preparation.Screen Shot 2013-09-27 at 11.36.54 AMScreen Shot 2013-09-27 at 11.41.59 AM
