Biomarker, Targeted Treatment Found for Pancreatic Cancer

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – A new biomarker for pancreatic cancer has been discovered, potentially paving the way for new targeted therapies to treat the disease.
Researchers from the University of Cincinnati identified phosphatidylserine (PS) as a biomarker for the disease, which has a five-year survival rate of less than 5 percent. The study also showed that a certain biotherapy can target and kill pancreatic cancer cells.
"This study provides convincing evidence in support of developing a new therapeutic approach to pancreatic cancer,” study lead Xiaoyang Qi, PhD, was quoted as saying. “This technology is now being licensed and will hopefully be available in clinical trials soon.”
