Allergic Reactions Might Actually Protect You
(Ivanhoe Newswire) – The allergic reaction brought about from bee stings and snake bites may have evolved as the body’s defense mechanism against toxins.
Researchers from Yale University and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany studied the effects of honeybee and snake venom on mice. Once injected with the venom, the mice showed an increased resistance to the venom over time. The researchers concluded the body’s allergic response is not only a way of expelling the allergen from the body, but also protecting it later.
