Abstract
Familial risk of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC-alone or as part of multiple endocrine neoplasms, MEN2A/MEN2B) is high, so we aimed to answer open questions about lifetime cumulative risk of thyroid cancer (0-79 years LCRTC) among relatives of MTC patients by age and sex. For this nationwide study, a cohort of 3217 first/second-degree relatives (FDR/SDR) of 389 MTC patients diagnosed in 1958-2010 in the Swedish Family-Cancer Database was followed for thyroid cancer incidence. LCRTC in female relatives of a patient with an early-onset MEN2B (diagnosis age<25 140-520="" 15-43="" 16-63="" 3-20="" 320-750="" 44-57="" 5-26="" a="" about="" affected="" affordable="" age="" all="" among="" and="" at="" available="" cancer.="" cancer="" cumulative="" data="" depending="" develop="" diagnosis="" early-onset="" endocrine="" estimation="" even="" evidence-based="" family="" fdrs="" female="" for="" genetic="" had="" help="" high="" history="" in="" increase="" individuals.="" informative="" is="" late-onset="" lcrtc="" may="" men2a="" men2b="" men:="" men="52%)." more="" mtc-alone="" mtc="" nationwide="" not="" number="" of="" on="" or="" over="" p="" patient="" patients="" peers="" physicians="" probands.="" quite="" relatives="" representing="" risk="" risks="" s.="" sdrs="" select="" settings="" simply="" study="" tendency="" testing="" the="" their="" this="" thyroid="" times="" to="" tumors="" very="" was="" were="" where="" with="" without="">25>
