Texting/Driving: A Reminder from the AIDS.gov Team
June 3, 2013 • 0 comments • By Miguel Gomez, Director, AIDS.gov, and Senior Communications Advisor, Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Summer is upon us and that means that many of us are behind the wheel to visit family and friends. It’s important to remember to put away those phones while driving!
At AIDS.gov, we continue to encourage the use of mobile devices to extend the reach of HIV public health programs. Because we promote the use of mobile, we feel obliged to remind our readers and ourselves not to text and drive. Even hands-free mobile use can be dangerous. A recent report from the University of Alberta showed that even hands-free talking on mobile devices can lead to an increase in driving errors.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has important information about the dangers of texting and driving at distracted.gov. If you are promoting the use of mobile devices and tools your agency or organization, be sure to include information about the importance of using them safely.
Have a safe and healthy summer!
