The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is launching a new month-long, nationwide campaign called Toma las riendas ("Take the reins") to encourage Hispanics to take control of their health care and explore treatment options through the use of resources on patient-centered outcomes research from AHRQ's Effective Health Care Program.
AHRQ Acting Deputy Director Boyce Ginieczki, Ph.D., and AHRQ Scientific Review Officer Ileana Ponce-González, M.D., the Agency's campaign spokesperson, will join organizations committed to promoting the use of AHRQ's Spanish-language resources. The resources help patients understand the benefits and risks of treatment options and become more active partners in health care decisionmaking with their doctors and health care team. Among the collaborating organizations that have pledged to support the effort are the Latino Medical Student Association, the National Center for Farmworker Health, the National Latina Health Network, the National Association for Hispanic Elderly, the National Hispanic Council on Aging, the DC Office on Latino Affairs, and Telemundo.
