Wins from the Field: Ideas from CDC-Funded Grantees
An interpretive trail in Marks, Mississippi, commemorates the 1968 Mule Train that kicked off the Poor People’s Campaign. The campaign, conceived of by Martin Luther King Jr. shortly before his assassination, was an organized march to Washington, DC.
Our High Obesity Program recipient worked with established partners to make the interpretive trail an activity-friendly route. Enhancements included a local artist’s mural, bike racks and lanes, benches, and planters. The trail connects to downtown, a park, residential areas, churches, and an Amtrak station.
