Now is the Time to Catch-up on Childhood Immunizations
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to steep declines in childhood immunization rates. Although this trend is reversing, we must work quickly to get children back on track with recommended vaccines and reduce the risk of potential vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks. As we celebrate National Immunization Awareness Month this August, please join us to drive the message home: now is the time for children to catch-up and get ahead on recommended vaccines. There are a number of ways to get involved:
- Spread the word with the Catch-up to Get Ahead Toolkit. The toolkit offers social media banners, messages, graphics, and other resources to raise awareness about the importance of childhood vaccines during COVID-19.
- Share the Surgeon General's video for parents on the importance of catching up on childhood vaccines.
- Read the Assistant Secretary for Health's blog post on how healthcare providers and parents can work together to catch-up and get ahead on immunizations.
- Highlight the importance of immunization throughout the month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Immunization Awareness Month Toolkit includes graphics, messages, events, and more.
- Share CDC's Vaccination Guidance during a Pandemic with healthcare providers to help maintain or restart immunization services safely during COVID-19.
By working together to get every child caught up on recommended vaccines, we can keep more families and communities healthy during this challenging time.
