US records lowest number of coronavirus-related deaths in two weeks
Monday marked the lowest number of coronavirus-related fatalities in the U.S. in two weeks. According to Johns Hopkins University, 1,433 people in the U.S. died from coronavirus on April 20, adding to the overall death toll of 42,364.In Los Angeles County, the news is grim. According to a new report, the coronavirus is believed to have infected at least 200,000 people by early April, which would far surpass the number of officially confirmed cases.
In the Senate, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Tuesday that Congress has reached an agreement with the White House on “every major issue” of a nearly $500 billion emergency interim coronavirus relief package for small businesses, hospitals and testing programs across the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This development comes as the FDA has authorized the first at-home coronavirus test. In a statement released Tuesday, the FDA said that it had reissued an Emergency Use Authorization for LabCorp to COVID-19 RT-PCR Test to permit testing of samples that were self-collected by patients at home using LabCorp's Pixel by LabCorp COVID-19 Test home collection kit.
