Although people at high risk for HIV infection can protect themselves from the virus by taking a daily pill called Truvada, some people may prefer a longer-acting form of HIV prevention that is administered just once a month or once a year. For this reason, NIAID supports research on a variety of long-acting forms of HIV prevention.
