SAMHSA is thrilled to announce that "Suicide Prevention: What's Your Role," the echo site initiative to promote suicide prevention, was selected for the 2014 HHS Innovates People's Choice Award! Thank you for your vote!
Suicide is a serious and preventable public health issue. But if we are unaware of the signs and risk factors associated with suicide, someone close to us—a friend, a family member, a coworker, or a neighbor—might be at risk for suicide. As individuals and communities, we can reduce suicide rates if everyone plays a role in suicide prevention.
That's why SAMHSA, along with other federal partners, developed the concept of "echo sites" as a way to support communities across the country with their suicide prevention efforts. An echo site is a community-organized gathering that stimulates dialogue, collaboration, and action.
