Today, as part of CDC’s Get Smart About Antibiotics Week activities, CDC is hosting a high-level, consensus building meeting with key nursing home industry stakeholders and partners. The discussion is centered around the critical issue of antibiotic use in today’s nursing homes [PDF - 613 KB]. It’s important to note that 27,000 nursing home residents have antibiotic resistant infections.

In today’s Safe Healthcare Blog post, CDC’s Nimalie Stone, MD, makes the case for how the principles of antibiotic stewardship – which are currently being applied in hospitals – can also make a tremendous difference when implemented in nursing homes and other long-term care settings.
