It’s Get Smart About Antibiotics Week!

Today on CDC’s Safe Healthcare Blog, hospital epidemiologist and assistant professor Dr. Chris Crnich discusses the significant problem of inappropriate antibiotic use in nursing homes.  He stresses that although provider education is needed, the complete solution must involve a systems-based approach that takes into account the unique diagnostic and communications scenarios usually found in nursing homes. Dr. Crnich makes several recommendations in his efforts to reduce inappropriate antibiotic use and decrease antibiotic resistance.
