The Future of the NIAID Clinical Trials Networks

The Future of the NIAID Clinical Trials Networks

NIAID is currently planning for the future of its clinical trials networks. Specifically, NIAID is looking to expand upon the success of its six current HIV/AIDS clinical trials networks to create an infrastructure capable of performing both HIV/AIDS research and research involving non-HIV/AIDS infectious diseases. The planning effort is well underway as the awards currently supporting the six HIV/AIDS networks are set to expire in 2013 and 2014.

As NIAID moves forward to shape its future clinical trials networks, the institute continues to seek broad input from the HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases communities through a variety of forums. On Oct. 26, 2010, NIAID held a public town hall meeting focused primarily on the potential structure of the institute’s HIV/AIDS clinical trials network. On March 7, 2011, NIAID will host a second town hall meeting to discuss the development of a Leadership Group focused on infectious diseases other than HIV/AIDS.
