Flu vaccination is more important than ever!
Flu season is here and as we fight COVID-19, ensuring everyone aged 6 months and older gets an annual flu vaccine is more important than ever.
Flu vaccines are the single best way to prevent the flu. Each year, millions of Americans become ill with the flu, hundreds of thousands are hospitalized, and tens of thousands die. People who are vaccinated are less likely to get the flu or become seriously ill or hospitalized if they do get sick. Yet, flu vaccination rates are low. During the 2018-2019 flu season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that only 63% of children aged 6 months through 17 years and 45% of adults aged 18 or older received a flu vaccine.
This year, increasing flu vaccination rates is essential to keep every American healthier, stop the spread of flu, conserve medical resources, and reduce stress on the healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone can play a role in promoting flu vaccination and preventing the spread of flu this fall. Use these tools and resources to raise awareness that flu vaccination is more important than ever.
