Environmental Public Health Tracking: More Than Data

CDC’s Environmental Public Health Tracking Program uses data science to provide quality data and information on many health and environmental topics through its flagship product, the Environmental Public Health Tracking Network (Tracking Network). But Tracking is more than just a data system! The Tracking Program’s interdisciplinary team of experts provides technical assistance to other programs looking to create their own tools and resources, offering them the power of Tracking’s methods and resources.

The Tracking Program’s data science methods, expertise, and technology resources make data easier to understand and use for the improvement of community health. Here are a few examples of public health data resources that are Powered By Tracking.
Info By Location
Tracking’s Info By Location tool allows you to create a personalized infographic for health and environment in your county. This tool uses Tracking’s API (Application Program Interface) to present environmental health in a different, easy to understand format. The Tracking Network API allows developers, within Tracking or beyond, to pull any of the Tracking Network data and integrate it into new tools, like Tracking’s Enviro Health App Challenge winners.

Heat & Health Tracker
CDC’s Heat & Health Tracker is a free, publicly available, online tool designed to help emergency and public health planners prepare for and respond to extreme heat events. The Heat & Health Tracker provides timely, user-friendly, local-level heat and health data and information that can be used to inform decisions and public health actions, describe and locate vulnerable populations, and determine resources and potential needs. The Tracking Program collaborated with CDC’s Climate and Health Program to produce the CDC Heat & Health Tracker.
State and Local Tracking Programs
CDC-funded state and local health departments inform public health action in their areas by developing tools, applications, and products that are powered by Tracking.
