Heat & Health Tracker

CDC has released a first-of-its-kind, online tool to help emergency and public health planners prepare for and respond to extreme heat events. The Heat & Health Tracker provides timely, user-friendly, local-level heat and health data and information that can be used to :

  • Inform decisions and public health actions,
  • Describe and locate vulnerable populations, and
  • Determine resources and potential needs.

Features

  • Search for information by county or zip code
  • Create custom maps
  • View data snapshots
  • Access guidance and resources from CDC and other credible sources.

Data

  • Current, historical, and future projected temperatures
  • Heat-related health effects (emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and deaths)
  • Population characteristics (demographics, socioeconomics, and vulnerabilities)
  • Community characteristics (land use, land cover, and locations of important resources such as hospitals)

The CDC Heat & Health Tracker was developed by a collaboration between the CDC Climate and Health Program, which empowers communities to protect public health from a changing climate, and the CDC Environmental Public Health Tracking Program, which develops tools, applications, and products that utilize environmental health data for public health action.
