Alcohol and Liver Function in Women

Alcohol-related liver disease generally has been ascribed to men, given that men have historically consumed more alcohol than women. However, recent literature has revealed that rates of alcohol-related liver disease have increased among women, in part due to the increased alcohol consumption observed in this population. This increase is a paramount concern, as women are more susceptible than men to the effects of alcohol-related liver injury.
