Schools Can Use the WSCC Model to Promote Learning and Health
Schools play a critical role in promoting the health and safety of students and helping them establish lifelong healthy behaviors. Schools can use the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model to fit health-promoting practices into the school setting. Examples include:
- Providing daily physical education and increasing opportunities for physical activity at school,
- Providing nutritious school meals and school snacks and access to drinking water,
- Ensuring school health services are available for all students, and
- Encouraging parents and caregivers to support their child’s learning and health.
CDC Healthy Schools has resources for school staff, parents, and community leaders to learn more about the WSCC model and how it can be implemented in schools. You can also find examples of how states are using the WSCC model. Here’s a story on how Arizona used the WSCC framework to create new wellness standards for school districts
