The National Cancer Institute is pleased to share its Annual Plan and Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2020, which directs attention to areas where there is unique potential to improve the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer.
In Dr. Sharpless’s first year as NCI Director, he identified key focus areas that leverage the scale and reach of NCI:
- Develop the workforce of cancer investigators
- Reaffirm our commitment to basic science to drive novel approaches and technologies
- Innovate the design, administration, and analyses of clinical trials
- Increase data aggregation and interpretation to speed work across the cancer enterprise
These areas of focus permeate all sections of this proposal, which also includes compelling stories of cancer patients to highlight the impact of our research on people’s lives and futures. With this plan, we come ever closer to fulfilling NCI’s mission to help all people live longer, healthier lives.
