In a new study, behavioral lifestyle intervention programs that focused primarily on diet and physical activity limited weight gain during pregnancy in overweight or obese women. The study, called Lifestyle Interventions for Expectant Moms (LIFE-Moms), is a consortium of seven independent but collaborative clinical trials supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases; the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development; the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health; and other Federal offices and agencies.
