Mobile Phone Microscope Detects Parasite Infection
Scientists from NIAID and the University of California, Berkeley, and colleagues have developed a mobile phone video microscope to measure blood levels of the parasitic filarial worm Loa loa. By enabling health care workers to rapidly screen for Loa infections under field conditions, the device may aid efforts to eradicate neglected tropical diseases in Central Africa.
