Studies have consistently shown that alcohol consumption, even as little as one drink per day, is associated with increased risk of breast cancer, yet many people may be unaware of this risk. This article summarizes the latest research on the role of alcohol in breast cancer, including effects on survival, mechanisms of effect, and whether the association varies by drinking habits, diet, smoking behavior, or other factors.
