New Dietary Guidelines Released to Encourage Healthy Eating Patterns among Americans
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Department of Agriculture has released the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. These updated nutritional guidelines encourage Americans to adopt a series of science-based recommendations to improve how they eat to reduce obesity and prevent chronic diseases, like Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
This 8th edition of the Dietary Guidelines recognizes the importance of focusing not on individual nutrients or foods in isolation, but on everything people eat and drink to bring about lasting improvements in individual and population health. It provides a better understanding of food and nutrition so that people can make informed decisions. This latest edition also gives individuals the flexibility to make healthier food choices that are right for them and their families.
