CDC e-HAP FYI Updates: What's New in HIV Prevention

Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released complete plans for each of the twelve participating jurisdictions of the Enhanced Comprehensive HIV Prevention Planning Project (ECHPP). The plans are posted together with the executive summaries made available earlier this year on CDC’s ECHPP website.
Posting of the plans marks the end of the first phase of the three-year demonstration project aimed at maximizing the impact of HIV prevention in the 12 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) with the highest AIDS prevalence in the United Sates. Phase two, beginning September 2011, focuses on ongoing planning and coordination and implementation activities.

Lessons learned from the project will inform how CDC can best work with health departments, other US government agencies and communities to reach National HIV and AIDS Strategy (NHAS) goals across the country.
In support of NHAS, CDC is aggressively pursuing High Impact Prevention (HIP), an approach which favors achieving a higher level of impact with every federal prevention dollar. ECHPP exemplifies CDC’s commitment to HIP by supporting interventions with greatest impact.
Plans reflect varying approaches to HIV prevention undertaken by each site, and other health departments may choose to adapt select key components and innovative interventions to optimize prevention activities in their own local epidemics.
