This year, CDC would like to celebrate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week by reaching out to EMS professionals and acknowledge the dedication and service of EMS professionals nationwide.
Every day, the approximately 1 million EMS professionals have a substantial impact on the care of injured persons and on public health in this country. From motor vehicle crashes to falls in the home, on average, EMS professionals respond to nearly 16.6 million transport calls every year and work in approximately 15,000 EMS systems across the country.
Earlier this year, CDC released the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report: Recommendations and Reports (MMWR) Reports and Recommendations on the 2011 Guidelines for Field Triage of Injured Patients. These guidelines have been endorsed by 37 organizations, the Federal Interagency Committee on Emergency Medical Services, and received concurrence from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
