American Stroke Month

American Stroke Month

American Stroke Month 2012

May is American Stroke Month and the American Stroke Association is  giving kids a creative way to help spread stroke awareness
Terrence JDo you know any young kids who are ready to share their video-producing talent with the nation? American Stroke Month is the perfect time for them to shine — and to spread stroke awareness — by creating an original hip hop stroke video. Kids ages 10-15 can enter the American Stroke Association’s Hip Hop Stroke Video Competition for a chance to meet 106 & Park host Terrence J.

The American Stroke Association challenges kids to join the fight against stroke by creating an original hip hop stroke music video for the national competition, which starts May 7 and runs through Sept. 21. The Top 10 videos selected by the public earn a chance to be judged by celebrities such as Terrence J. and legendary hip hop artist Cheryl “Salt” James of Salt-n-Pepa!  To qualify, all participants must download the official American Stroke Association hip hop stroke song from the website (Coming Soon on May 7th) and include it in the video. A parent and/or grandparent must also be included in the video.
Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death and a leading cause of severe, long-term disability in America. Yet, only 2 percent of those recently surveyed consider stroke the leading health issue and only 7 percent think of stroke as a major health concern. Make stroke awareness a priority in your life and enlighten those around you.

There are other ways you and your family can empower yourselves during American Stroke Month — and throughout the year. For example, you can take the American Stroke Association’s What’s Your Stroke I.Q. Quiz and share it with others. The quiz tests your knowledge of stroke risk factors and warning signs, healthy behaviors and what to do if someone suffers a stroke.
