[Download and Analyze] 2010 Substance Abuse Treatment Admissions Data

2010 Treatment Episode Data Set–
Admissions Now Available for Download and Online Analysis
The 2010 Treatment Episode Data Set–Admissions (TEDS–A) is now available from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA). SAMHDA's new website allows you to download TEDS–A data, conduct online analyses, develop custom Quick Tables, and view Interactive Maps.
The following changes have been made to the TEDS–A series:
  • Data files updated with new data extracts for 2000–2009
  • New ARRESTS variable added that lists the number of arrests a person had in the 30 days prior to admission for 2008–2010
  • More detail added to DENTLF (Detailed "Not in Labor Force" Category) and DETCRIM (Detailed Criminal Justice Referral) to improve usability of these variables for all years in the series
  • Existing recode tables in codebooks updated to display the original frequency percentages of categorical variables
TEDS–A is collected annually and provides details on individual treatment admissions throughout the United States. Demographic information such as gender, race, ethnicity, education, and employment status, among others, are included in the data. Substances reported in TEDS–A include alcohol, cocaine and crack, marijuana and hashish, heroin, nonprescription methadone, other opiates and synthetics, stimulants, tranquilizers, sedatives, and over-the-counter medications, among others.
SAMHDA also maintains and distributes a TEDS–A concatenated file. This file will soon be updated to include the 2010 data.
The 2010 TEDS–A report [PDF - 2.9 MB] is available from SAMHSA.
