Light can affect both your mental and physical health.

During a recent talk in NCCIH’s Integrative Medicine Research Lecture Series, Dr. Helen Burgess of the University of Michigan discussed current research on the effects of light on sleep, mood, pain, and other aspects of health. She also offered these tips for improving sleep and wellness:
  • Maintain a set sleep schedule. Set a bedtime and wake time.
  • Get light during the day (without sunglasses). Go outdoors or sit near a window with direct light.
  • Minimize artificial light after sunset. Dim the light from electronic devices and avoid using them in the hour before bedtime.
