Weekly

The figure shows the percentage of adults aged ≥18 years with self-reported excellent or very good health, by race and Hispanic subpopulation, in the United States in 2009, based on data from the National Health Interview Survey. During 2009, nearly two thirds (65%) of non-Hispanic white adults assessed their health as excellent or very good, compared with less than half (49%) of non-Hispanic black adults. Approximately 52% of Hispanic adults were in excellent or very good health. Among Hispanic subpopulations, the percentage ranged from 50% of Mexican adults to 58% of Central or South American adults and 59% of other Hispanic adults.
* Based on responses to the following question: "Would you say your health in general is excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor?" Health status data were obtained by asking respondents to assess their own health and that of other family members living in the same household.
Persons of Hispanic ethnicity might be of any race or combination of races.
§ Estimates are based on household interviews of a sample of the U.S. civilian, noninstitutionalized population. Estimates are age adjusted using the projected 2000 U.S. standard population as the standard population and using four age groups: 18--44 years, 45--64 years, 65--74 years, and ≥75 years.
