Call for Abstracts

The Conference Planning Committee welcomes submission of abstracts for oral presentations, poster sessions, pre-organized symposia, and skills-building workshops that focus on critical issues in the field of STD prevention and related fields. In order to ensure that the conference is able to feature a broad spectrum of the best STD prevention work in the country, we ask that you submit no more than 2 abstracts on which you are the primary author, only one of which can be submitted as a single oral presentation. More information about the types of presentations is available on the Abstract Submission siteExternal Web Site Icon.

One of the unique features of the Conference is the planned interface of science, program, and policy for STD prevention. Research presented at this conference should have explicit program or policy relevance. For that reason, we request that authors consider and present the practical implications of their work, explicitly addressing how findings will impact program, policy, and research. Therefore, the abstract format includes a section called "implications for program, policy and research.” Please be as specific as possible so that conference delegates can make informed decisions about the presentations they attend.

We are interested in research, programs, and policy that have succeeded, partially succeeded, and failed in achieving anticipated results. All such findings can be useful to those who manage programs, develop policy, or conduct research, allowing them to learn from experience and refine their efforts accordingly.

All research-based abstracts should describe investigation methods and primary findings in sufficient detail to allow reviewers to fully evaluate the scientific merit of the work. Abstracts failing to adhere to these requirements will not be reviewed.

New this year: Program Showcase!

We would like to invite program staff from project areas funded by the Division of STD Prevention at CDC to submit one poster abstract profiling a program activity or series of activities. In choosing which activity or activities to highlight, project areas should consider the potential benefits of sharing this experience with their peers, including: preliminary or final results and implications from promising programs; program development and implementation challenges and successes along with lessons learned; the use of or opportunities for quality improvement; and/or innovative new methods for STD prevention and control within project areas. Project areas should consider submission of activities which have succeeded, partially succeeded, or failed in achieving anticipated results, and should include cost and/or cost-effectiveness data when available. Only one abstract may be submitted per project area. Project areas are encouraged to partner with local health departments or community-based organizations if the activity presented is implemented through one of these venues. Presenters should be prepared to discuss their submission in roundtable format should it be selected for inclusion in the Program Showcase Roundtable session.
