Sentinel Node Biopsy May Aid Staging in Locally Advanced Breast Cancer

https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/sentinel-node-biopsy-may-aid-staging-locally-advanced-breast-2026a100120s?src= Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy identified at least one sentinel lymph node in 74% of patients with locally advanced breast cancer who became clinically node negative. Among patients with adequate mapping and residual nodal disease, the false-negative rate was 2.1%. The findings suggest SLNB may help assess axillary disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in selected patients, but do not establish that it can safely replace axillary lymph node dissection.
