Machine learning + high-throughput screening was used to find small molecules with big impacts on the innate immune system when used as vaccine adjuvants, reports a new article in Chemical Science. In the NIAID-funded study, researchers at the University of Chicago developed a screening pipeline aided by a novel artificial intelligence tool for the rapid discovery of immune modulators and built a library of small molecules that can tune innate immune pathways. The authors say this work could be used to rapidly reveal novel ways to improve vaccination and immune treatments.
