National Survey Shows Reduction in Nonmedical Prescription Drug Use Among Young Adults The number of 18- to 25-year-olds using prescription drugs for nonmedical purposes in the past month declined 14 percent in 2011. SAMHSA Awards Up to $15.1 Million To Reduce Underage Drinking Through the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (STOP ACT) grant program, SAMHSA provides funding for community-based coalitions to prevent and reduce alcohol use among youth age 12–20. HHS, VA Demonstrate Secure Sharing of Sensitive Health Information The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and U.S. Department of Verterans Affairs (VA) announced a demonstration of the standards to allow health information to be shared responsibly in order to comply with confidentiality laws and regulations among providers using electronic health records. President Obama Signs Executive Order To Improve Access to Mental Health Services for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families The order directs key Federal departments to expand suicide prevention strategies and take steps to meet demand for mental health and substance abuse treatment services.
