AHRQ adds new guides to supplement ischemic heart disease comparative effectiveness review

The Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) Effective Health Care (EHC) Program has added new materials relevant to the comparative effectiveness review, Comparative Effectiveness of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors or Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers Added to Standard Medical Therapy for Treating Stable Ischemic Heart Disease.

•A 10-page consumer guide, "ACE Inhibitors and ARBs To Protect Your Heart?," provides plain-language information on coronary heart disease and helps patients work with clinicians to understand the benefits and risks of these treatments. •A two-page clinician guide, "Adding ACEIs and/or ARBs to Standard Therapy for Stable Ischemic Heart Disease: Benefits and Harms," offers clinical bottom-line findings. The findings include level-of-confidence ratings for possible benefits and harms. •Two continuing medical education (CME) activities educate the learner on the important findings from the comparative effectiveness review and their application to patient care.
