Bronchiectasis Study

OPEN HERE PLEASE:
Bronchiectasis Study

NIAID is seeking volunteers who have been diagnosed with or are showing signs of bronchiectasis, a disease characterized by airways that are swollen, abnormally dilated, and chronically infected with bacteria. Read about the studies.

NIAID is a participating site in the U.S. Bronchiectasis Research Registry, which supports collaborative clinical research on non-cystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectasis. The registry recently enrolled its 1,000th patient, making it the world’s largest database of non-CF bronchiectasis patients who are willing to participate in research studies. Read more about the registry.

Volunteer for NIAID Bronchiectasis Clinical Research Studies

NIAID researchers are investigating the acquired causes of bronchiectasis, which is characterized by enlarged airways that are chronically infected with bacteria and predisposes people to infection. If you have been diagnosed with or are showing signs of bronchiectasis, you may be eligible to participate in an NIAID clinical study. There is no charge for study-related medical care, including study visits, medications, treatments, and procedures. Volunteers also may be compensated for time and travel.
The following are selected studies sponsored by NIAID. The links lead to full descriptions and study locations.
Cross-sectional Characterization of Idiopathic Bronchiectasis (NCT01264055)
This study is enrolling volunteers at least 18 years of age who have a chronic cough and who have had a CT scan that revealed signs of bronchiectasis. This study attempts to broaden the understanding of this disease.
Natural History of Bronchiectasis (NCT00943514)
This study is enrolling volunteers 5 years of age and older who have been diagnosed with bronchiectasis or have a history of chronic/recurring respiratory infections. This study explores the causes of and mechanisms for the development of bronchiectasis in patients with chronic and recurring respiratory tract infections.
