Reducing the burden of HIV in the United States is a daunting goal, but one that can be achieved.
Please join the nation’s HIV prevention leaders at a special AIDS 2012 satellite session, for an engaging discussion about the future of HIV prevention in the United States and to hear about exciting new strategies that are enabling us to work smarter with limited resources.
The National HIV/AIDS Strategy, recent scientific breakthroughs, and growing leadership in hard-hit communities provide great hope for the future of HIV prevention. But the challenges remain significant – over 1.1 million people are living with HIV; 50,000 Americans become infected every year; one in five Americans living with HIV is unaware of their infection; and poverty, complacency, and stigma continue to fuel the epidemic.
CDC’s High-Impact Prevention approach – prioritizing resources toward the most cost-effective, scalable interventions, aligned with the epidemiology and geography of the epidemic – is being adopted around the country. This approach is essential to achieving the goals of NHAS and ultimately the vision of an AIDS-free America.
The session will feature case studies, innovative ways to use surveillance and modeling, discussion among expert panelists, and audience Q&A.
